What determines if my child is accepted?
The Perkins School is an inclusive and vibrant learning community. We look for families who understand and support our mission. We strive to build a community that represents a diversity of cultures, family orientations, and student strengths and styles.
What is “early kindergarten”?
We are not restricted to following a calendar to determine when a child is academically and socially/emotionally ready to begin kindergarten. Instead, we consider each child as an individual. Some children who turn five years old in late summer or early fall are ready for kindergarten. In other words, they may be entering kindergarten “early.”
WiLL MY child NEED an I.Q. test?
We do not require an I.Q. Assessment, though we do ask to be provided with a copy of any educational testing or psychological evaluations your child has received.
WHere do Perkins Graduates go to Middle School?
We work closely with students and families to support the transition to middle school. We are proud to have alumni at a wide range of public and private middle schools.
Tuition & Financial Assistance
Independent school is a significant investment. But we believe that our community is stronger when we serve a multiplicity of families - and Perkins is committed to keeping our tuition as affordable as possible. For the 2026-2027 school year, tuition will be $29,996.

What does tuition really cover? Will we incur additional costs or fees during the year?
Tuition covers your child’s enrollment for the school year. Rather than charging separately for each field trip, emergency preparedness, learning assistance, or other periodic fees throughout the year, we have an annual classroom fee. For the 2026-2027 school year, this fee is $425 for K & 1st grades and $525 for 2nd-5th grades. Parents of 4th and 5th graders also pay for their child’s overnight science camp. Financial assistance is available.
Extended Day Program
Do you offer before and after-school care? What are your hours and fees?
Students may arrive as early as 8:00am on school days for no additional fee. Our Extended Day Program (EDP) is available from dismissal to 6:00pm (with limited space available beginning at 7:30am for those needing an early drop off). For the 2026-2027 school year, the daily drop-in fee for after-school care is $31 and the discounted annual fee is $4,632. The annual rate includes full day care (8:00am-5:30pm) for mid-winter break, spring break, and most teacher in-service days. Financial assistance is available.
Do Perkins Students Get Dirty?
The Perkins experience can be quite messy! Foundational understandings in various disciplines are often rooted in hands-on activities. Children here are fully immersed in all aspects of their experience both inside and outside of the classroom. They sculpt with clay, paint, cook, build, garden and more! During recess our students build with planks and logs in our sandbox, play sports, climb in trees and play with our water collection moats. Students leave Perkins with a strong foundation in academic skills, a zest for learning, and a need for a good scrubbing.
