Part Time Art Teacher           

 The Perkins School is seeking a part-time Art Teacher to join our teaching team. The ideal candidate has experience teaching art at an elementary school level, is familiar with best practices for elementary ed art instruction and enjoys working in a small and collaborative elementary school setting.

 About: The Perkins School is a small, independent kindergarten through grade five school located in Seattle's Maple Leaf neighborhood.

 Job Description:

  • Planning, preparing, and teaching art classes to students in grades k-5

  • Write reports twice yearly for students

  • Communicate effectively with parents, students, and colleagues

  • Collaborate with other teachers to effectively meet the needs of all learners

  • Curriculum research and documentation

 Job Requirements:

Candidates should have the following:  

  • Classroom experience with teaching art in an elementary age setting

  • Formal teacher training

  • Experience with curriculum and program development

  • Willingness to work closely with colleagues 

  • Possible part time assistance with other school duties

 Candidates should also have the following characteristics: 

  • A history of art production and activity outside of classroom teaching  

  • A self-starter that has ideas for engaging students in a dynamic, experiential curriculum

  • Deeply well-liked by students and their parents 

  • Collaborate well in team teaching situations 

  • Enjoy all children and have respect for childhood 

  • Progressive approach to teaching and learning

 Compensation and Benefits:  

This is a part-time position.  This position could range from two to four days per week*. The more limited hours would focus only on art teaching.  The more expansive hours would include other duties such as recess supervision and classroom assistance.  The four day per week employment would include full benefits. The level of employment would be negotiated between the candidate and the school. The salary range for this position is $25,000 to $65,000 depending on training, experience, and number of working days.
